The Heart Behind Sunny Speaks

Hello and welcome to my blog!
I’m Sunayna- or Sunny, as most people call me- a passionate paediatric speech pathologist dedicated to helping children find their voices in whatever form that takes.

From a young age, I loved talking and connecting with older people. My parents used to marvel at how I’d capture the attention of their friends when they came over. Having a voice felt like my superpower- it helped me stand out and be seen.

But not every child finds communication easy, and not all communication looks the same. For many, speaking can feel confusing, frustrating, or even overwhelming. Imagine feeling something strongly but struggling to translate it into words-  or not being understood, even when you try your hardest. Leading to misinterpretation that may cause children to withdraw completely.

That’s why I take a neuro-affirming approach to speech therapy-  where all forms of communication are respected and supported. Whether a child communicates through spoken words, gestures, facial expressions, AAC, or movement, it’s all valid and meaningful. Communication isn’t just verbal- and it doesn’t have to be. There’s no “right” way to express yourself. My role is to support children in discovering how they want to connect with the world.

Paediatric speech pathologists can help children develop these communication skills during their most formative years. We also support families-  empowering parents with tools, strategies, and understanding to meet their child where they are and navigate daily challenges with more confidence and clarity.

I believe that when families are supported and empowered, children thrive — not just in speech, but in their sense of self.

Through Sunny Speaks, I share guidance, tips, and insights to help families understand and support their child’s unique communication journey. My goal is to honour every child’s voice- whether spoken, signed, typed, or shown through joyful gestures- and to create a space where every child is celebrated.

I’ve always been drawn to working with children. Their curiosity, creativity, and resilience inspires me daily. Supporting a child in finding their own way to communicate is a privilege- and one of the most meaningful parts of my work.

Every child has a story to tell. I’m here to help them tell it- their way.

Join me as I explore the joys and challenges of paediatric speech therapy, share helpful tips, and reflect on heartwarming stories along the way. I’m so glad you’re here- let’s make a difference, one moment of connection at a time.

Sunny :)
